A HEARTFELT appeal to help raise £40,000 has been issued by the friends and relatives of two heavy metal musicians who drowned off the coast of Brazil.

Leon Villalba, 21, an only child of Cromer Street, King's Cross, and Tim Kennelly, of Ealing, west London, died after getting into trouble in the sea.

They were both members of the band After Death, which had gigged in and around Camden and King's Cross at venues such as the Purple Turtle in Crowndale Road.

Guitarist Leon, a former pupil of St Aloysius' College in Archway, was described as the "driving force" behind the band while bassist Timothy had only joined six months earlier.

After Death had been in Brazil for about a week, where they were supporting the band Master on a tour, when the tragedy happened on January 21. Leon and Tim's families have been told that they need to raise £40,000 to bring their bodies home and lay them to rest.

Georgie Burns, 21, Leon's close friend, said: "They had gone to a deserted beach but there were no signs to say it was dangerous. Leon started struggling and calling for help. Timothy went to assist him. When the other band members saw them, they were clinging on to each other and then went under."

Ms Burns added: "We need to raise £40,000 to bring them back but Leon's mother really can't afford it. She has no family members to help her and is a cleaner.

"We just want to raise as much as we can. They can't be left in Brazil. They have to come home."
