EIGHT teenagers were arrested after they ran riot in a supermarket, smashing bottles and looting the store.

Six boys and two girls rampaged through Tesco Express, in England's Lane, Chalk Farm, at 10pm on Monday, throwing food at staff and the public.

The gang smashed bottles, damaged isles and stole cigarettes and drinks.

The group fled as customers cowered in fear, but police in the area spotted them and gave chase on foot.

All eight were arrested and were being questioned as the Gazette went to press.

At 8.30pm, four of the gang had been involved in an altercation at the store. They started picking a fight with a member of staff, but when workers detained one of them, the other three returned and began threatening them with weapons.

As the staff were distracted the fourth youth managed to escape.
