A MAN fatally injured in a road accident "lived for his six-year-old son", his devastated friends have said.

Slovakian-born Jozef Valabik's friends and family are now desperate for any clue that will reveal why the smash happened.

Mr Valabik was on his way to work when he was struck by a dark-coloured Chrysler car in Kentish Town Road, Camden Town, at about 6.50am on January 20.

Medics raced to the scene but the 35-year-old, of Whitney Road, Waltham Forest, was already in cardiac arrest. He was later pronounced dead at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.

Mr Valabik had come to England 13 years ago in order to see more of the world. Although he planned to eventually return to Slovakia, the self-employed construction worker had a settled life in London as part of a close circle of about 10 friends.

Miro, speaking on behalf of Mr Valabik's friends, said: "He was always the good person in the group. He was always the one who never hurt anybody. He didn't have any enemies.

"Everyone just can't believe it. People say it's not possible because Jozef was always so careful. He was so responsible.

"He had a six-year-old son and he was still good friends with the boy's mother. In the past six years, his son was his life. Everything Jozef did was for him. He loved being a father."

Mr Valabik was on his way to a job in Chalk Farm when the fatal accident happened. The driver of the car stopped but was not arrested.

Miro said: "We found out that evening but the police haven't been able to tell us much. We need witnesses to come forward. Even if someone saw just one little detail, it might help. People may not even have realised that someone died."

Anyone who can help police investigating the accident should call the collision investigation unit at Euston Traffic Garage on 0207 388 6806.
